STEP 1

We start with Mama- Let’s face it, we are tough- we are the biggest critique and also dictate the mood for this experience.

Let’s focus on your outfit so you feel your best and you radiate a calm and confident demeanor to carry the clan.

Try these tips when picking something for yourself: (after booking an experience with me, you will also be provided a complete video walking through the wardrobe I offer that comes complimentary)

Wear a dress, romper or long skirt with a flattering top.

Trust me on this one. You’ll feel your best and it’s more flattering and comfortable than anything else you can wear. Keeping the length longer with a slit on the dress or skirt is also so much easier to work with and essential for movement and shaping your body.

I have some of the top brands here to choose from: (Look for wrap dresses, maxi dresses or a smocked dress in a print, solid or interesting fabrication/texture)

Here are the list of preferred brands:

Anthropologie

Baltic Born

Amazon

Petal & Pup

Red Dress

Lulu’s Wrap Dresses

Bohme

Banana Republic

Madewell

  • Pick a dress that’s figure flattering. I recommend any kind that has a fitted waist. Skip the shift dresses and swing dresses because one gust of wind and you suddenly look twice as wide as you actually are.
  • If you’re not a big fan of dresses, choose a skirt and top combination or romper. But again, choose one that’s an A-Line style (fitted in the waist and flows out over your hips). I promise it’ll be 1000x more flattering than anything else you could pick.
  • Fabrics that flow and lay well on your body:  T-shirt Chiffon, rayon, linen, double knit, or silk, and could look cheap and unflattering from some angles.

Step 2. Choose your family color palette.

Now that you’ve picked your outfit, it’s time to figure out the entire color palette. I created a Pinterest board with a family picture outfit ideas that we can work on putting together 🙂

Since I truly don’t offer boys wardrobe I also think this is a great place to venture when pulling the right choices together for the Men and Boys in the FAM.

I’d recommend choosing 2-3 complimentary colors for your color palette, and then have variations of those colors, in darker or lighter shades incorporating texture and pattern with depth.

Step 3 LAYERING

Look at how you can add vests, jackets, or sweaters, no scarves tho(in the right season) or tall socks under boots, so you have more opportunity for incorporating your colors and adding texture and dimension. Your outfits will feel more complete if everyone’s in something more than just bottoms and a top. In the warmer seasons it’s truly about the ethereal, so the flowy thin material supports how the sun haze creates whimsy and variety when working with light.

PRO TIP: Try to keep with traditional muted tones and patterns. Nothing overly trendy with the boho vibe or bright in color. Overdoing the color with your baby girl for instance and adding in all the flower crowns and extras dates the image. Our goal here is to keep you all the counterpoint of the imagery and wanting these images to last on your walls forever and ever!

Step 4: Did you create interest?

  • Pattern
  • Color and similar hues of this color
  • Depth
  • Is there texture? (Leather, Fur, Denim, Cable knit or Corduroy)
  • Accessories like statement earrings or a necklace or simple bracelets layered in?
  • Additional layers with outwear, cardigans, shawls or wraps needed?

AND LASTLY, when you are at peace and confident and open for whatever may come our way during the experience then you are truly ready to create some memories!
