Childbirth is undeniably an incredible experience in a woman’s life. It opens up a plethora of new beginnings and challenges. Everything is exciting and intimidating, from finding the right clothes for the baby to setting up the baby’s room.

Of course, all this can be pretty overwhelming and confusing. But do you know what’s manageable and straightforward? It’s getting outdoor maternity photography in Asheville, NC and Hendersonville, NC, without hassles!

Outdoor maternity photography is an underrated art. Unfortunately, only some understand the complexities and challenges it brings. Moreover, a lack of experience and expertise can turn a cute maternity photo shoot into a disaster in just a few moments.

Fortunately, here at Carly Buntin Photography, you don’t have to worry about any of that. Throughout my career, I have photographed many new mothers and moms-to-be. This has enabled me to find the right approach to understand the varying needs of my clients accurately.

As a dedicated maternity photographer, I help you prepare for the photoshoot from scratch. From the wardrobe to the location and the entire shooting process, I help you decide what works best for you.

There are a lot of things that you should bear in mind when you opt for outdoor maternity photography. Therefore, I have compiled a small list of recommendations to help you better prepare for the maternity photo shoots near me.

Recommendations for Outdoor Maternity Photography

  • It is best to schedule your session between 31 and 36 weeks. This ensures that your baby bump is beautifully visible. Additionally, a maternity photo session during this time will help you overcome the discomfort and bloating that occurs earlier in the pregnancy.
  • The camera can capture details with precision. Therefore, it’s best to moisturize those knees, elbows, and bellies. However, I recommend you do so 1 – 2 hours before the session to avoid any shininess or sticky clothes. As a rule of thumb, you should wear minimal jewelry and avoid any tight-fitting accessories that might leave marks on your skin.
  • I recommend you treat yourself to a neutral or light-colored manicure 1 – 2 days before your maternity session. This saves you the hassle of preparing for things at the last minute.
  • If you already have some cute baby items, such as shoes, hats, toys, blankets, or onesies, bring them along, as they make for adorable props. The same applies to family heirlooms. However, this isn’t a necessity. Instead, we can discuss how you want this shoot to turn out, and I can arrange the necessary props.
  • Over the years, I have noticed more moms using ultrasound photos in their photo sessions. I recommend you bring yours to the shoot as well. You can later decide If you want to use it or not.
  • Always opt for versatile locations that are easily accessible. I don’t recommend strenuous treks or rocky pathways, but small hikes and scenic views are always on my list.
  • My final recommendation would be to take the time to pick the right outfit for the maternity shoot. The best kinds of clothes are the ones that are comfortable and allow you a free range of motion. But please ensure that your clothing doesn’t mask your growing belly or natural glow. Generally, avoid large, bold patterns or extremely loose-fitting clothing. Your best friends are your empire waists, drawstrings, flowing tops, and wrap dresses. However, if you need help deciding what to wear, let me help. I have a fully-functional maternity and newborn wardrobe.
