If you’ve been shooting professionally, you may have heard of Reclamation Design or maybe you were scouring Etsy for a long gown for whatever occasion and came across the whimsy and magic Trista’s designs offered.
For the past 3 to 4 years, it’s hard to not have seen or heard of the uproar with this innovative fashion brand that has caught on like wildfire within the photography and special occasion industry! It was like 2 creatives that never met but finished each other’s sentences. On the one side – a photographer dreaming up an ethereal vision for their shoot and on the other side a stunning well designed dress that offered up all the right components to allow for the elements (sun and wind) to literally breathe through the dress, not to mention custom fitting for various body styles! These dresses have literally made the entire experience more enchanting than ever!
Now, the question I had: Who is Trista?
Just a few years ago, Trista was actually staying at home, raising her children. She simply had a hobby and that enthusiasm wasn’t something that was given much life – I think we all know as a Mama our hobbies are Mommin ! There wasn’t a business degree she left behind or an inheritance that fell in her lap. There was a simple conversation within her family that went along the lines of – Let me set aside some time for me to create a vision I have. The beauty in this objective is the people around her that instantly had the faith and the belief in what she could not truly spell out. The potential for the unspoken understanding of trust and support in a relationship is exquisite.
I think what resonated with me the most was the sometimes overlooked pinpoint that makes or breaks our futures and supports what becomes the biggest life changers. And that is the beauty in how we handle ourselves and each other while having this drive, it’s Tricia’s RAW REFINEMENT.. It is what makes a believer in our own believers, It is what grants us the time to create it, the little glimmer off in the distance when it’s too dark to see at times, it’s the first client that pays you and sees you. They feel your RAW UNPAVED REFINEMENT.
You can have the money, you can have the time, you can have the idea – but none of that compares to simply having this uncooked and relatable essence about us – this will get you just as much in life as all the things because more people just simply appreciate how you make them feel! When your spouse, family, children (those close to you) can simply believe in you and support whatever type of time etc, it will take – it truly does craft your WHY. The WHY is our own ability to make it happen, regardless of the in-between storyline that happens from the beginning to actually reaching our goals. That in between storyline is almost like a nagging fly we keep shooing away so we can see our vision clearly.
I am breaking all this down and making it such a focus because I was overwhelmed with the exact feeling listening to Tricia. I could instantly see why her vision became the reality. AND the more I thought about it, I realized this was the same feeling we were all having experiencing her dresses.
We as creatives craft our ideas, it’s simply a vision – the roadmap to get there, moreso a manual, isn’t then created – we forge ahead into the The Sea of Ambiguity fueled by curiosity, stamina, and the need to struggle at times.
Whatever the situation is– you’re sacrificing any bit of time you can, to give life to your vision, you just instinctively start to work on that vision. If you’re a stay at home mom, like Trista was – you’re asking your partner to allow you this time saying “there’s an end goal in mind” or “this simply makes me happy because it’s a piece of me.”
When I was listening to Trista- I felt the beauty in the faith her family had in her.
I related so much to those in between moments she must have had where there was a pull to go do what she loved and a push for a return with her time away from home. It becomes conditional- almost like a man going out for the day to fish, because he simply loves it, then returning with no fish to show his wife. Does she feel happy for him at the moment or fishless? Those are pinnacle moments.
The thing is, we (creatives) don’t live for the moment, we live for the vision. We sit still – sometimes there is no movement – sometimes there is a shiver and sometimes there is a leap. Those in between moments are where the raw refinement comes into play.
Would we all know Trista had it not been for the way she treated herself, others and her craft during the ambiguity? Would people believe in her the same, would manufacturers have felt her visions and embraced her magic in the discussions about her designs and fabrications when she was feeling the pressure to scale her brand?
Beautiful isn’t found in beauty, Beautiful is found in the intricacies . . it’s found in the energy we give, it’s found in spoken word, in body language and in one’s drive.
It’s found not just in the beautiful dresses that Trista creates with all her magic-. It’s found in her relationships at home, at work, overseas and within the many industries that adore and purchase her beautiful designs.
She has had the ability to start in one room, add a second seamstress, then a third, ultimately employing a larger team overseas ensuring their livelihoods mattered and her designs and magic were felt in their hearts as they worked with their hands. Her rawness, her refinement and simply her ability to relate will be the pieces to this brand that we will always support!
