Hi There, I am Carly Buntin and have been a Newborn Photographer in Asheville, NC. I previously lived on the West coast with a sound Family, Maternity and Newborn photography business for over 10 years. Along the way I have developed an emotive lifestyle look and feel to my work. The most intimate and captivating work is truly the story telling piece where baby’s loved ones are the prop. I find unique spaces like your home or outdoor in the elements lend to a compelling way to document this chapter in your lives. What Experience do you have as a Newborn Photographer?
I have heard so many stories of someone’s sister or friend trying to start a photography business and they are excited to “practice” for a very low rate with newborn photos. I am all about practice and support in growing someone’s interests/hobbies into a full time career. However, this specific niche in photography takes years of understanding, partly because you are learning the anatomy and specifics around how newborn’s respond, react and behave during the first couple of months. There are so many intricacies that need a tenured and trusting individual to support feeling confident and calm during such a special memory that you are building. I absolutely feel these sessions bond the mother and I as we talk through sleep training, wrapping and so so many other things during our time together. I have 4 children and also have been photographing newborns for over 6 years now. When you are extremely confident in what you are doing the baby feels that and the session goes so much more smoothly as it is natural for the baby to feel calm, safe and soothed as we move through the experience together. I will definitely gain an in-depth understanding prior to your feeding and soothing preferences so I am following your practices with baby as well.

What is the ideal space to capture this time in our lives with our new baby?

- This could be in your home: blending your aesthetic and your favorite people in the imagery.
- Maybe you are an outdoor lover and want a memorable experience and artwork that shows both your humanity and the elements.
Or we also have the option to utilize the scenic views at Mountain Property ; we have the option of the magnificent Great room lighting indoors or the sweet porch swing with scenic views. If the weather is pleasant we can garner even more variety in your gallery with Jump Off Rock steps away from the property, as well.

What if my baby won’t settle or sleep?
Well first and foremost they do not need to be asleep at all. I have had all combinations of sleeping and awake – it doesnt matter and to be honest, a beautiful baby giving me all the beautiful eye contact is so compelling. It is easy to experience your newborn wrapper or maybe even in a womb wrap with all their tootsies and fingers out feeling content. They can also very well be wrapped and held by you while they interact with all the loved ones. It just truly depends on the nature of the baby and you all. Whatever baby is giving me- I go with the flow and we will create a stunning gallery together.
I will definitely do some intake with you prior to understanding your feeding preference and specific soothing techniques so I am following your same practices.

What is offered in the Newborn Photography package price?
All the things! We agree on location, all the time we need 🙂 I do not timestamp this experience since we are working with a brand new babe. Typically 2 hours tho! I offer a wardrobe for where you will receive my wardrobe video to watch and select from a wide variety of summer dresses to long layered casual gowns that flatter your shape and skin tone. After we select your wardrobe I will show you options for babe to coordinate alongside assisting other immediate family as well. On that note, all immediate family are more than welcome to join the experience. The outcome of this sweet time together is a stunning Artistically Edited 40 image gallery with over 80 color corrected images for you to download as well from your proofing gallery.

What is the age range for a newborn photoshoot?
I generally photograph a newborn between 3-5 weeks old. I do this because over the years I have found the style of my brand is more so, lifestyle with authentic posing with loved ones as the prop.(I do capture baby solo in 2-3 specific props and small beds that have always carried through my signature and timeless look to my imagery. ) This gives mama time to adjust and also start to establish somewhat of a feeding schedule and chunky cheeks along the way. At this phase skin acne is typically clearing as well. There is absolutely no reason to rush into a photography session days after your baby is born. They are still new and everyone has a more enjoyable experience when we give it a few weeks.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my newborn photoshoot?
It is best to go ahead and book the session while you are expecting. I place your session on the due date and once the baby is born we agree on an actual date and time for the session. If there were any complications during the delivery, I also tend to wait a couple more weeks past the 3-5 week timeframe to ensure you have enough time to work through healing and feeling your best. I also think you have a little bit more time to absorb the prep and wardrobe selection prior to delivery 🙂

What is the preparation process before coming to the photoshoot?
Truly not much! I do ask that we speak over the phone so we can run through how everyone is feeling after delivery. I would recommend bringing all the essentials for feeding and soothing your babe, if you have particular practices in place. Please dress babe in loose cozy clothing. Bring your diaper bag and if you forget it no worries, I have diapers and wipes as well 😉
Any wardrobe essentials we have discussed for styling. If you have booked hari and makeup please have clean dried hair and clean moisturized skin.
